Compsoc chat is brought to you by [[http://www.igniterealtime.org/projects/openfire/index.jsp|Openfire]] and the letter C.

Until LDAP is set up, only committee, admin and webteam members will have chat accounts set up.  Email <andrewjregan@compsoc.nuigalway.ie> to get set up. Currently only works inside the nuigalway network. Outside this network will leave you in a constant connection state with an eventual timeout.

====== Initial Setup ======

  * Install a chat client that supports XMPP. I recommend [[http://www.pidgin.im/|Pidgin]].

  * Add your Compsoc account.
    * In Pidgin: Accounts -> Manage -> Add
    * Fill in you details similar to below:

====== Outside College Network (requires tunnel) ======

First of all make sure you have setup a ssh tunnel to connect a local port to be forwarded to the college proxy server. See [[how_to:ssh_tunneling|How-to: SSH Tunnels]].

   * Follow the initial instructions and fill out the basic tab as in the example above
   * Fill the Advanced tab as below
      * This example assumes that the local port being forwarded in the [[how_to:ssh_tunneling|SSH Tunnels]] example is 3022.
