NUI, Galway Computer Society, or Compsoc as we affectionately refer to it as has been around for a long time. The society's Treasurer is currently engaged in filling in some gaps in Compsoc's history but it's safe to say that we were founded 25 years ago and have been active for most of the intervening time. The original constitution has been retrieved from a drawer in Student Services and we hope to have a scan of it up on the site very soon. There has been very little changes made to date.
In 1998 Compsoc's auditor John McDonnell realised that the time had come for the society to get it's own dedicated server rather than relying on other facilities. This was student.nuigalway.ie and was retired over the summer of 2004 and is now named Brockman.
There has been much effort put in the society since 2001, which can be seen by the awards won by the society to date, most notably the NUI, Galway Society of the Year 2003/2004. A more detailed guide will be written up here shortly.
